September 2024
After spending many years on the stage in countless shows, one of our eldest service users (97) stepped back into that world after supporting her to find and join a local choir. Now going each and every week, she has started to sing again and we each morning we too sing with her. she lights up each and every time.
April 2025
One of our Services users welcomed her first Great Grand-Child. Together we created a special card to send and even ventured out on the hunt for a gift fit for her beautiful new G. grandchild, before sending it off. priceless moments
June 2025
Today was a truly heartwarming moment as one of our ladies, after months of diligent rehabilitation following a fall, bravely returned to piano. With gentle encouragement, she overcame her fears and rediscovered her love for playing. It was a joyous occasion that not only showcased her resilience but also melted our hearts as she proved to herself that she could still do it. This inspiring achievement reminds us all of the power of perseverance and gentle encouragement.

According to our research, more than a quarter (26%) of people aged 50 and over are rarely or never leaving their homes for social activities, and 1 in 8 (13%) rarely or never have social contact with others over the phone or online.
One in 12 said that they were often or always lonely. The figure was higher for people aged 50-64, those who were more disadvantaged, people with long-term conditions, and unpaid carers. Respondents frequently talked about different types of loss – through bereavement, retirement, reduced social activity, and loss of their identity.

This highlights the very sad gap in the elderly support system and how many of our older generation are socially isolated and struggling to access the local community, get out for appointments or simply have little company. One of our core values is getting our clients to 'keep living' and not just existing: in a way that reminds them of the people they still are and not think that part of them is gone.

At Kingfisher Care Services York, it is important that we have a transparent and open service which places our clients at the centre of everything we do, whether that is choosing what time they get up and shower to what they would like to do each and every day or what they feel is important to them that day, we feel its important ot be driven by them. As wellbeing is an important part of good mental health, we work together to try and integrate our clients into the community to promote independence and increase social interaction.
